Statistical Methods and Data Analysis

A crucial skill for any experimental physicist is a deep understanding of statistical methods in order to scrutinize and interpret measurements.

Therefore, this lecture focuses on state-of-the-art statistical methods of the type employed for data analysis in experimental physics. In the practical exercises, students perform independent analyses on the computer using data taken from genuine experiments. Examples and real data are from actual particle physics experiments are used to practice hands-on data mining.
